I Tried, Really I Did.

After being home of a few days, I was excited to get up and get dress to go to Kaiser for a Mother's Tea celebrating World Breastfeeding Week. I put Reese in a cute little French dress I found new at a consignment store in Pacifica.

<--- My attempt at taking her picture - she was REAL happy about that!

As a side note, if you don't talk to me often you may not know that Reese has been fussy the last 2 weeks. She has so much going on in her little body - she barely sleeps, was learning to crawl, teething and getting up to nurse at night (which had been long gone).

But, with all that, I thought this Tea would be fun. So wrong, very wrong.

First, I get out of the car and realize I forgot the stroller - no big deal, I always have a carrier in the car so in the Ergo she went. It was a good thing. I walk in to a packed room of tables set up with CHINA! After checking in, signing a release for pictures, I try to sit with Reese in the Ergo and she squeals. I take her out, sit down with her on my lap and she goes right for the white with silver trim tea cup. I move it out the way and she gets the spoon - oh, well. She can have that.

The next 20ish minutes (which seemed like forever) Reese fussed, and squealed and did not want me, to nurse or to be held. I saw a sign for a playroom and left all my stuff and ventured over to it. I walk in and realize it is for dropping Toddlers off - I ask if I can just play with Reese on the floor and they let me. A movie came on, real loud and I had to go. Elmo bothers me a bit (I know I will have to get over it later in life, but I can stay away until Reese discovers him).

I go back in, and more of the same - Reese just flips in my arms and I start to sweat. I was hungry by now, and a little thristy but knew I could not carry her and a plate! She would have grabbed the food and I would have dropped her or it! The photographer comes over and asks if I am going to get food . . . I felt silly just sitting there. I said, I was ok. She could probably see the sweat coming down my face and see I needed help . . . "Let me take her," she says.

I hand her over and warn the woman "She is really wiggly" and walk over and get some Tea sandwiches, and yummy little desserts. I come back and take Reese back (bad idea!) and sit down. Reese is eating food, but not salami sandwiches and ginger muffins with creme! I give in, and place her on the floor sitting with all her toys around her.

I place Reese back in the Ergo, ready to run out and they announce next was a raffle and our gift bags. Geez, I am a sucker for a gift bag. I started to bounce the wiggly girl and she stares out the window and soon her eyes drop and her head hangs forward onto me. I enjoyed the second half with her asleep on me, chatted with a Mom beside me (giving her newborn son a huge formula bottle) and ate a few more treats. I won a gift card to a Bi-Rite Market on 18th street - never heard of it!

After, Reese nursed in the car and we went on to Target were she happily sat in the cart and looked at the lights and people walking by. Target makes us happy!

P.S. That dress is cute, but Reese looks less than pleased. Skip the dresses for now and save them for the professional photos and what not.

I mean, really, what year is this? 1950?

Do both of you a favor and dress comfortably.
