Yesterday, on Danny's 35th birthday we tried food for the first time for Reese after a morning out to the Millbrae House of Pancakes and she tried to take my bacon off my plate - I thought it is time.
I cooked the carrots and pureed them myself adding in breastmilk to make it thinner and familiar. She took one bite and made a face that is just awesome. I went in for another and she tried to take the spoon. I went in for a 3rd, and she pushed her little lips together and would not open her mouth. I tried a few more times and she just wanted the spoon - not the food. But, it was a start.

Today was her 6 month well baby check-up with a new Doctor (which I liked very much). Reese did her usual huge crap on the way there - so she needs to be cleaned before the big weight in.

Here are the stats:
Weight: 13 lbs 14.8 oz.
Height: 25.25 in.
HC: 40.5 cm
This puts Reese in the 14% of growth percentile for her weight-for-age, which OF COURSE worries me. The Dr. said it was time to start cereal and introduce a sippy cup so it is easier to break her from a bottle later. I am fine with the sippy cup but I had heard so many things about cereal being a "junk food" so I thought why use it. BUT now that she is so lean and long, I feel like it is time to help her gain a little weight. I had already bought some so we went home and had alot of Boob and tried almost 4 oz of organic brown rice cereal by HAPPYBABY, which means she ate only about 2 oz. It went pretty well, she seemed to like it a bit more than the carrots so maybe I need to re-puree them and add in more BM. I guess I also have to pump more which I dislike with a major passion, but I will do it for the Girl.

We will see how this new adventure in food goes. Stay Tuned!

Reese is really growing up! The funny thing is that Lila has almost the exact same stats...but a little lighter. She was 13lb 10.5oz, 25.5inches, and (i think) 40cm at her 6month check up. Which puts her at 10% weight, 50% height, and 75% head circumference...weird proportions but what can we do ;)
My doctor actually told me the cereal is really important for their growth since its going to be a major source or iron in the next 6 months, just balance it with enough variety of veggies. Lila's now tried homemade organic corn and avocados, and looooves them. But still doesnt like the fruits. I have Beaba Baby Food maker which makes it really easy to make the food...I think you can get it at Williams Sonoma.
Ok this is more like an email than a comment. Enjoy feeding, its so fun!
