Cotton Baby

As much as I often would frown upon those Granola Moms I would meet in my upbringing the sometime hippy Noe Valley, I am embarrassed that I don't care that I have become one.

I am continuing to "exclusively" breastfeed the Girl (and No, we have not started solids and I am not sure when we will). I carry her around in a Sling (which is called Babywearing, funny. Like she is a new fashion statement). And after a constant Bum rash for about 2 months of her short life, I couldn't take it anymore and we have switched to cotton diapers.

Now, I am not whipping out pins. Cloth diapers have really evolved and there are some super cute ones on the market. I decided to go with a brand called bumGenius because I thought they would be an easy transition and because they are considered a ONE size due to their fancy snaps that snap down the make the diaper longer as she grows. So the shock of shelling out $400+ on diapers went away when I realized how much money I would save over the long run (one article I read said that cotton cost $0.06 a diaper while a disposiable cost $0.25 a diaper) with purchasing this style. There are so many to choose from, and of course, I have found people that make their own and have bought a few of those . . . most for the most part, Reese will be sporting the bumG's.

What comes with this you ask?

Yes, lots of laundry on my side. But the annoying part is taking the soaker out of the pocket of the diaper . . . over and over again. The machine does all the work. I also got a sprayer that Danny hooked up to the water line in my bathroom so I can spray of the poop (if needed).

I also have to have a wet bag with me when I am out (since I am going Green in a small way, why not go all the way by not using plastic) and that is another accessory I purchased with my diapers.

Along with this, a fellow CD Mom from my San Bruno mother's Club made me cotton wipes out of my receiving blankets (so if you bought them as a shower gift, thanks!!) so that way I don't have to have a diaper pail and a trash bag. I can just wash it all.

I have also stopped using and receiving bags when out shopping, I am a canvas carrying Mama!

I feel the same way! I'm a cloth diapering, vegetarian, extended breast feeder, but I feel like it is all a big coincidence. I don't "feel" like one of those hippie moms. I feel like a hippie mom poser. I don't wear peasant skirts.

Have you thought about "g diapers"? The Seventh Generation are chlorine free but they still don't actually decompose any faster than regular disposables. I feel like they don't explain this, of course because they want to see diapers to eco-minded mamas!
G diapers have reusable pants with a throw away liner that is decomposable.

Don't forget the cute factor. I mean, what good are diapers if they can't be a fashion accessory, lol.

But yeah, I also don't seem to remember where I made the switch from one side of the fence to the next.
